walking...

Do you live in a city where you drive to get to the corner? I do... boy are we lazy asses in this city.... everywhere you go seems like it's miles and miles away... why is it that we always have to drive everywhere? have we forgotten the beauty and healthiness of taking a short walk? or a long walk.... and not to mention that we are polluting the earth and causing horrible global warming (please learn about global warming and how you can help www.stopglobalwarming.org). Anyway... as you all know I had a car accident not long ago and well... we've been managing without one car quite fine... (the other car is still getting worked on)I work only 2 miles away from home... (ok 1.80 to be exact)... so on Monday I had the brilliant idea of telling my g/f not to pick me up because I had decided to walk home... what a marvelous idea that was. After I got out of the office... off i was on my little adventure... it was quite a pleasant walk, I must say I noticed things that I had never ever seen before and I have been driving right by them for a year... isn't that sad? ah.. to get to your destination by your two own feet, what a great way of transportation and oh how much satisfaction it brought. I loved it! I loved walking and enjoying that time all for myself, without people talking to me, phones ringing or a computer screen (don't get me wrong I'm a geek at heart, I love computers) but to be away from all that daily noise and just take a 40 minute walk felt great. I wanted more the next day.... I started walking home and half way there I realized the Farmer's Market was up as it is every Tuesday, I've driven right by that farmer's market so many many times, perhaps for YEARS... and for the very first time I walked right into it... it was like walking into a little fair... there was food, free yummy samples all over, smiling and welcoming faces... I only had a couple of bucks in my pocket so i bought a small bag of kettle corn.... they had fruit there, vegetables, nuts, juices... all organic.... even homemade tamales!!! I was so pleased.... what a great walk I had. Today, I shared my experience with some of my co-workers and told them I had been walking home... they didn't quite understand why.... I got off work and once again started my walk home.... my co-worker drove beside me and asked to give me a ride... "are you sure you don't want a ride at least half way?" No, I'm fine... what's so strange about taking a 40 minute walk? they now think I am weird for doing something that is good for my heart, it's exercise, it helps the environment and it's even therapeutic.... I have to laugh at that really... finding me weird for wanting to walk home not even 2 miles away??? WOW! we depend on cars so much these days... I wish we had better public transportation here... like NYC... I love NYC because u simply don't need a car to get anywhere!!! it's amazing.... I noticed today I started recognizing faces along the way, people waiting for the bus, getting off work... no day is the same... sometimes we simply just don't pay attention to the small details... and at times they just happen to be the most important...

not everything is bad...

So... i got so involved in telling you about my car accident that i forgot to tell you about the rest of my weekend!

Friday -- we decided to get our lazy cold butts off the couch and go out... boy was it a coooold night! so anyway we have dinner at Bossa Nova (excellent brazilian restaurant in West Hollywood) and we decide to walk over to 'Fiesta Cantina' where our friend is partying... we get there and she was wasted off her ass... very funny actually... we decide to stay for a bit and guess who walks in? Mila Kunis (Jackie from That 70s show) so whatever.. living in LA teaches you to be 'cool' around celebrities and try not to stare and make them uncomfortable... but still we walked right by her and I 'accidentally' bumped into her as i was walking..hehehe... she looked at me and i said.. sorry.... she just smiled... haha! We wanted to be in a different scene so we decided to leave and go to the Abbey (always a busy place) we go in.. and we decide we want to go somewhere else where we can dance (can we make up our minds or what?) as we are exiting the place.. we notice an extra crowded spot where people keep staring into a sectioned off part of the place... we hear people whispering "it's Britney Spears" we work our way through the crowd and there she was... wearing a black hat.. at first we were hesitant wondering if it was really her... but as soon as we saw her chewing that gum like a cow we knew for sure it was her! celebrity night perhaps? We ended our night celebrity-free at PopStarz (good place to dance)... it was an interesting Friday.

$hit Happens!

What a weekend!!! It's funny how shit happens when you least expect it or well you just really don't know when things can go wrong... I was driving my g/f's SUV (I normally drive a mustang) minding my own business on the freeway going at speed of traffic approx. 75mph when suddenly this van tries to barge into my lane (I was on the lane next to the fast lane) the dumbass wasn't paying attention because he just started moving in... he almost side-swiped me and my reaction was to get out of the way... I swerved to avoid the hit and my sudden move and a combination of crappy tires and a tall car made me lose control of the vehicle... I struggled to regain control as i was zig-zagging through the lanes and finally did a 180 degree spin and crashed into the center concrete divider... phew... I very calmly look over to my g/f "are you ok?" she said yeah are you? -- I'm ok. Wow... can you imagine if we would have hit a car in the process? what a mess we could have caused on the freeway! and what's worse is that the person in the van probably didn't even know what he had caused, he sure didn't stop to see if we were ok. Thank God we didn't flip over! So anyway... what to learn from this experience?

* Watch the road people!! make sure nobody is in your blind spot
* If you are driving an SUV remember to not make any jerky movements
* Remain calm at all times
* Learn from your experience don't make the same mistake all over again
* Getting new tires? don't go for the el cheapo ones... traction control is extremely important!
* Be thankful that you are alive, this shit can happen to anyone, we got lucky, but so many things could have gone way worse.
* Always wear your seatbelt it sure kept us in place while we were spinning!

Don't take life for granted... life is way too short, so many things can happen in our daily lives... you are here today hey you may be gone tonight or crippled in a hospital bed tomorrow... Live in the present, let go of the past and stop worrying about the future... your life is happening right NOW as you are reading this... enjoy it to the fullest... get outta here go have some fun!
